Brannik's supporters rose to their feet, but İslam Hirfanlı was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by İslam Hirfanlı in the 23rd minute. If Aaron Alcocer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers İslam Hirfanlı in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 32 minutes, İslam Hirfanlı put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 39th minute. İslam Hirfanlı sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Rickie Garcia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. 48 minutes into the match, Axel Tasis had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Byron Tanner. Brannik's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Axel Tasis was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 82nd minute of play forced Brannik's goalkeeper Byron Tanner to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Axel Tasis struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Byron Tanner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Byron Tanner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 97th match minute, Brannik was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Dow to maneuver through the defense. Brannik's Byron Tanner proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 98th minute of the match, managed to save Brannik from getting a goal against them.
