Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Axel Montenegro in the 8th minute of play. Elpidio Vitin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santino Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Severo Maule got free with Pedro Manzanares in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Colombia getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Samuel Navarro hit a great ball. Axel Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elpidio Vitin having to interfere. Celedonio Eriz's late challenge caught a Colombia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Celedonio Eriz helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th minute, Celedonio Eriz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 28 minutes into the match, Vélez Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Axel Montenegro came free, but Elpidio Vitin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute, Axel Montenegro sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin didn't even have to move. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cristian Naike stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 59 minutes Vélez Juniors's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Axel Montenegro who took care of the corner kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Vélez Juniors's goalie and right to Joshua Garrido. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Vélez Juniors's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Colombia's Pedro Manzanares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Naike in the 61st minute of play. Axel Montenegro who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 62ndth minute tested the skills of Elpidio Vitin when he managed to save the team from getting behind.
