Peru's Eliseo Mina managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by José Luis Brown in the 2 minute of the game. Matías Patrone made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luz Tejedor in the 5th minute. With an all-out effort, Peru's Matías Patrone threw himself towards the right post 10 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Julian Murillo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 11th minute of the match Peru got a corner. Los Delfines's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Matías Patrone made a huge save. In the 15th minute, Atilano Quinten got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Julian Murillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 27th minute Atilano Quinten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Los Delfines's Matías Patrone played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 30th minute of play. When Julian Murillo came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Julian Murillo couldn't finish the play. 40 minutes into the match, Los Delfines's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Matías Patrone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matías Patrone made an important save on a dangerous shot by Julian Murillo in the 45th minute.

Matías Patrone took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Milagros Fraga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Atilano Quinten in the 66th minute of the match. Rolando Noboa was out of position in the 66 minute of play, and Atilano Quinten capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Atilano Quinten really showed his touch with that goal: 0-1. Los Delfines made a substitution. Saverio Regis replaced Atilano Quinten. In the 78th minute, Oliver Bierhoff ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rolando Noboa was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. A sloppy throw-in by Alonso Berganza in the 84th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Los Delfines's José Luis Brown. Rolando Noboa made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Oliver Bierhoff sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Benê Møltov during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Los Delfines's Benê Møltov got a free kick in the 96th minute.
