In the 5th minute, Los Delfines's Arquímedes Cesario dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. 9 minutes into the match, Los Delfines's goal looked a bit too open when Luz Tejedor came free, but Matías Patrone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19th minute, Los Delfines's Benê Møltov ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Rolando Noboa. Rolando Noboa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Moises Gayoso hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Julian Murillo in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Matías Patrone saved Los Delfines from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Julian Murillo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matías Patrone was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. 33 minutes into the match, Los Delfines's goal looked a bit too open when Milagros Fraga came free, but Matías Patrone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Los Delfines's Matías Patrone played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luz Tejedor in the 46th minute of play. In the 47th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luz Tejedor to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when José Luis Brown made a throw-in in the 51st minute of the game. Julian Murillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julian Murillo scored 2-2 in the 55th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Matías Patrone, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Los Delfines's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oliver Bierhoff was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Matías Patrone didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Julian Murillo went, in the 79th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. Matías Patrone made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 82nd minute of play. José Luis Brown made in the 85th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Oscar Orzaize however managed to control. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oliver Bierhoff in the 87th minute of play. In the 89th minute Rafael Gallo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matías Patrone saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oliver Bierhoff sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Los Delfines's Matías Patrone got control of the ball when Rafael Gallo tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Peru eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
