With a couple of smart ball manuevers Monty Rogers in the 64th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pastor Firman saved Club Sportivo Quilmes from getting behind. USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Verón in the 67th minute of play. USA made a substitution. Sam Campbell replaced Cassius Byrne. In the 75th minute Sebastian Verón shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 79 minutes, Samuel Medero mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Sportivo Quilmes and the USA players grew even worse after the yellow card.
