After a defensive mix-up in Los Frogos's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mattias Jansson came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mattias Jansson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Christoffer Mårtensson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mattias Jansson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 53rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 55th minute, which Mattias Jansson however easily saved by the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Mattias Jansson in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Christoffer Mårtensson in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. 93 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mattias Jansson narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
