When Pheonix FC's Vladislav Hampejs in the 8th minute got a chance for a shot 8th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Florentin Gougeon kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. A sloppy throw-in by Jorginho Mello in the 14th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Valencia C.F.'s Todd Kidd. If Florentin Gougeon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Santiago Cañizares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 任正振, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. In the 23rd minute of the game Alan Almeida made a throw-in which Marcel Militaru played forward. Valencia C.F.'s Santiago Cañizares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vladislav Hampejs in the 41st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Pheonix FC's zone, Florentin Gougeon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tyge Oehlerich came out of the goal and Florentin Gougeon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 45 minutes into the match, Pheonix FC's goal looked a bit too open when Florentin Gougeon came free, but Tyge Oehlerich reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Valencia C.F. getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Ricardo Arias hit a great ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jonny Logan to strike the kick off in the second half. Ernst Ahlbom kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Florentin Gougeon took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tyge Oehlerich. Tyge Oehlerich dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. 61 minutes into the match, Pheonix FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jonny Logan came free, but Tyge Oehlerich reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santiago Cañizares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vladislav Hampejs in the 64th minute of the match. 任正振 might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Santiago Cañizares. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. 任正振 ran back to his position shaking his head. Tyge Oehlerich made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florentin Gougeon in the 67th minute of play. 68 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s Florentin Gougeon sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tyge Oehlerich narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 95th minute, Aziz Gustaman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

Pheonix FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
