Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Aaron Bemabe made a throw-in in the 17th minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Julian Murillo in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alvaro Valente saved Scofield from getting behind. 26 minutes into the match, Scofield's goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Mina came free, but Alvaro Valente reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aaron Bemabe hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. 38 minutes in the game, Julian Murillo dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Fabio Iago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Rolando Noboa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Scofield booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alonso Berganza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luz Tejedor got free with Alvaro Valente in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Moises Gayoso made in the 78th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Julian Murillo.
