The Altermundi FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Candido Piedra should have stopped the shot. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Reyes in the 31st minute of play. With a little luck, Altermundi FC's Candido Piedra got control of the ball when Milagros Fraga tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Peru booed when Altermundi FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henk Everts didn't get a good kick on the ball. Candido Piedra made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Luz Tejedor sent off a good shot on target. In the 45th minute Sergiu Zgrăbunţa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. 94 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Sergiu Zgrăbunţa came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Disvandis Larraona in the 96th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Peru's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
