Julian Murillo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Caetano Peseiro made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Julian Murillo sent off a good shot on target. Gora Dam hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ali Gültiken in the 44th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ali Gültiken to strike the kick off in the second half. After having played for 51 minutes, Julian Murillo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Peru's supporters crossed their fingers, but Julian Murillo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
