The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Xabier Alejandre during the 33rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 33 played minutes Azulgranas got a freekick which was hit by Xabier Alejandre. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Łukasz Fabiański tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 36th match minute, Azulgranas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geovanny Sabugo to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind Azulgranas's goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Azulgranas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dani Fase didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 46th minute of play forced Azulgranas's goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 47 minutes had been played when some careless play by Azulgranas's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 58th minute, Sánchez Castruita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Łukasz Fabiański having to interfere. Azulgranas made a substitution. Victoriano Movilla replaced Sánchez Castruita. Azulgranas's Francisco Berrios was substituted for Marco Zust. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Berrios, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Sancho was extremely unlucky when he, in the 74th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Xabier Alejandre got his second yellow card in the match during the 77th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dani Fase, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. 86 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Victoriano Movilla was slow to take the kick. During this time Azulgranas's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Victoriano Movilla almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Agustín Saelices managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Agustín Saelices was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Łukasz Fabiański breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 90th match minute, Azulgranas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vasco Cuezba to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 91st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Azulgranas. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ulises Terroba charged in rather forcefully in the 97th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ulises Terroba the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 98th match minute, Azulgranas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulises Terroba to maneuver through the defense.
