The supporters of Alvi Verde booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliseo Noboa didn't get a good kick on the ball. 6 minutes into the game, Manoel Berger recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Benito Sanz. Manoel Berger showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. After 14 minutes of play, Costa Rica's Axel Tasis made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Silas de Castro was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 22nd match minute, Alvi Verde was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaime Aguiar to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 24th minute of play forced Alvi Verde's goalkeeper Silas de Castro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lautaro Puig to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Manoel Berger tried to sneak it across the goal line. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Axel Tasis was the one to do the kick off. 57 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Tony de Carvalho came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner led Costa Rica's Axel Tasis to fire away a dangerous shot which Silas de Castro despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tony de Carvalho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 70 minutes into the game, Basílio Mazza was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Alvi Verde's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Costa Rica the free kick. A collision led to Alvi Verde getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Basílio Mazza hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manoel Berger in the 75th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Abel Carballo hit a great ball. If Manoel Berger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Manoel Berger in the 92nd minute of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Alvi Verde fans cheered their team off the field, for while Costa Rica had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
