No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The coaching staff of Club Atlético Escocia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Justin Tello had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Club Atlético Escocia:s Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri showed great skill when he stopped Daniel Zorita:s penalty. In the 89th minute, Aquiles Lazcano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Aquiles Lazcano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anastasio Gagriel in the 102nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
