Emanuel Podgoreanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Emanuel Podgoreanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cassius Byrne in the 25th minute of play. After 27 minutes USA's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edgardo Soto Tapia who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Edgardo Soto Tapia almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but USA's Marco Day did a great save. Edward Mcdonald fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emanuel Podgoreanu having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Sebastian Felin came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Emanuel Podgoreanu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cassius Byrne's shot from short distance in the 36th minute. In the 36th minute of the match USA got a corner. CSD Concepción's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Cassius Byrne ran over to the corner to take the kick. After having played for 40 minutes, Sebastian Felin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CSD Concepción's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sebastian Felin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Damazy Warka could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Marco Day made a huge save. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

After 51 minutes, Edgardo Soto Tapia mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CSD Concepción and the USA players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to CSD Concepción getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Edgardo Soto Tapia hit a great ball. Marco Day showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lucero De la Sotta, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute.
