El Salvador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maleta the free kick. 8 minutes into the match, Maleta's Horácio Santos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ricardo Zorita narrowly saved just below the crossbar. El Salvador's attentive Marco Tamayo managed to snatch the ball when Kiko Velasco made a throw-in in the 11th minute of the game. Ricardo Zorita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horácio Santos in the 15th minute of the match. Kiko Velasco hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horácio Santos in the 21st minute of play. Horácio Santos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 24 minutes, Mateo Leguizamo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the Maleta players grew even worse after the yellow card. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita became a little unsure and couldn't grip the ball before it was over the goalline. Thus it was 0-1. 40 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Horácio Santos came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Walmyr Matorin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Horácio Santos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Zorita having to interfere. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Valentino Ferrant hit a great ball. Ricardo Zorita was out of position in the 57 minute of play, and Carlinhos Lopez capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Carlinhos Lopez really showed his touch with that goal: 0-2. 62 minutes into the match, Walmyr Matorin notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ricardo Zorita made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Horácio Santos sent off a good shot on target. When Maleta's Horácio Santos, in the 76th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Maleta.
