After a rather tough play, FK Partizan Beograd's Kamenko Nemčev got a free kick in the 2nd minute. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 7th minute of the match Juan Rubio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Boris Čović showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 10 minutes, Lautaro Puig mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the FK Partizan Beograd players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 16th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Alcocer to maneuver through the defense. In the 17th minute, Kamenko Nemčev hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 19 minutes into the game, Eliseo Noboa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Boris Čović was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 23rd minute of the match, Mitar Momić tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Benito Sanz saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Višeslav Putinčanin got free with Benito Sanz in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lautaro Puig blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Boris Čović having to make a save. Višeslav Putinčanin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. In the 42nd minute, Eliseo Noboa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Costa Rica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mitar Momić in the 46th minute of the match. After taking down the ball on FK Partizan Beograd's corner Živadin Gvozdenović fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Benito Sanz quite easily take care of the ball.

56 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Mitar Momić came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 61 minutes in the game, Eliseo Noboa fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Boris Čović having to interfere. 61 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Costa Rica's Axel Tasis fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. In the 87th minute of the match Alan Moruga sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Boris Čović skillfully saved the ball.
