Michel Preudhomme came out and tried to block the shot, but Daniel Zorita slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 11th minute. Michel Preudhomme showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 79th minute of the match. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Michel Preudhomme having to interfere. Taavi Rähn could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. In the 95th minute Saden Merzouk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Michel Preudhomme breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee ended the match the Ecuador players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
