Severo Izotz's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Severo Izotz helped the player get up and apologised. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Paraguay lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
