Fausto Sá made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmundo Espiga in the 3rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Maleta's Horácio Santos got a free kick in the 5th minute. With an all-out effort, Honduras's Fausto Sá threw himself towards the right post 9 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Edmundo Espiga, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Carlinhos Lopez during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 16 played minutes Maleta got a freekick which was hit by Carlinhos Lopez. In the 20th minute, Walmyr Matorin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Maleta fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Carlinhos Lopez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 27th minute, Honduras's Sebastian Villa ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fausto Sá. Fausto Sá yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. In the 34th minute, Horácio Santos made a precise shot to the right of Lautaro Navarro. Honduras's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Fausto Sá made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edmundo Espiga in the 40th minute. After 41 minutes, Armandinho Amaral mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Maleta and the Honduras players grew even worse after the yellow card. Armandinho Amaral hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. A throw-in in the 43rd minute of the game was made by Armandinho Amaral with Horácio Santos as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Armandinho Amaral made in the 46th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Carlinhos Lopez. After the first half Maleta were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Horácio Santos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Armandinho Amaral made in the 51st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Honduras's Valentín Carvallo. 53 minutes into the game, Reinaldo Toledo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Maleta's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Honduras the free kick. It was beautiful to see Honduras's Luca Espinar in action when he in the 54th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Reinaldo Toledo hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Maleta's Reinaldo Toledo got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Maleta's Fausto Sá played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Villa in the 64th minute of play. In the 65th match minute, Honduras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Milagros Cabal to maneuver through the defense. Edmundo Espiga's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fausto Sá read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 71st minute of play. 74 minutes into the game, Armandinho Amaral threw the ball into play from the sideline. Honduras's Esteban Carvallo quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. A throw-in in the 76th minute of the game was made by Armandinho Amaral with Carlinhos Lopez as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Carlinhos Lopez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Honduras's Edmundo Espiga in the 81st minute got a chance for a shot 81st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Maleta's goalie prevented a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Honduras's zone, Walmyr Matorin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lautaro Navarro came out of the goal and Walmyr Matorin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Maleta's Walmyr Matorin got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Honduras manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Maleta to win.
