After 41 played minutes FC Riga got a freekick which was hit by Aleksandrs Meijers. After having played for 43 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kaspars Ketris in the 60th minute of play. 61 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Voldemārs Cariņš was slow to take the kick. During this time FC Riga's players had a chance to rest. In the 63rd match minute, FC Riga was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laimiņs Veterbergs to maneuver through the defense. After recieving a nice pass, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita tried to score from far away in the 64th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marin Ailenei's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. The audience was convinced that Marin Ailenei's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. Saivis Kikals made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. In the 88th minute of the match FC Riga got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Voldemārs Cariņš ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Ecuador's goalie and right to Jimmy Svenningsted. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Ecuador's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Juan Sebastián Puig got a free kick in the 90th minute. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marin Ailenei, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. Ecuador played a much better game than FC Riga and deserved their victory. The FC Riga players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
