Mateo Leguizamo hit a great ball. Winford Dwyer's late challenge caught a El Salvador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. Renaldo David showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Moises Fernandino in the 22nd minute of the match. In the 28th minute, El Salvador's Marco Tamayo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Marco Tamayo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of El Salvador protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Marco Tamayo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 27th minute, one of El Salvador:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for El Salvador. The goalkeeper, Ricardo Zorita, was totally fooled by United States's Karl Fleming, who 31 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. 34 minutes into the game, El Salvador's Abram Luque nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Renaldo David made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal in the 42nd minute to try and stop a shot by United States's Dexter Snell. But to his dismay, Dexter Snell quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Moises Fernandino in the 45th minute of play forced United States's goalkeeper Renaldo David to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Moises Fernandino made a kick off. With a little luck, United States's Renaldo David got control of the ball when Moises Fernandino tried to sneak it across the goal line. Renaldo David was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Moises Fernandino showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-3 in the 53 minute of play. When Joshua Curbelo fell near the penalty area in the 64th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Joshua Curbelo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 64th minute, Joshua Curbelo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Dexter Snell managed to get in a good position for a shot. United States's supporters rose to their feet, but Dexter Snell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ricardo Zorita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 67th match minute, United States was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Darron Healy to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of United States booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Moises Fernandino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Moises Fernandino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renaldo David having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jorge Magrina during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of United States booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Magrina didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ricardo Zorita didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dexter Snell went, in the 79th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-3 was the resulting score.
