In the 4th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomas Berganza to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hardo Kaarna in the 11th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Abraham Alguacil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 15th minute, Tomas Berganza ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Christian Goy was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 17th minute, Alex Cambeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Panama's Marcos Cotilla got control of the ball when Hardo Kaarna tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 28th minute, Albirex Niigata FC's Andrew Tongson ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Marcos Cotilla. Marcos Cotilla yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. In the 31st minute, Tomas Berganza left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Panama fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. After having played for 42 minutes, Andrew Tongson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Albirex Niigata FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andrew Tongson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 44 minutes of play, Panama's Isidoro Sarmiento made it 1-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Christian Goy was left in no man's land by his defense there! Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hardo Kaarna in the 47th minute of play. Disappointed in the 1-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Hardo Kaarna to strike the kick off in the second half. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 52nd minute of the game. One of Panama:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Albirex Niigata FC:s goal. Tomas Berganza struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Christian Goy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Panama. Tomas Berganza took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Christian Goy. Christian Goy dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-5. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomas Berganza in the 65th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Christian Goy saved Albirex Niigata FC from getting behind. Tomas Berganza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 78 minutes into the game, Isidoro Sarmiento cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-6. Christian Goy was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With an all-out effort, Panama's Christian Goy threw himself towards the right post 81 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Tomas Berganza, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
