He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Peru reached it. 45 minutes into the game, Peru's Milagros Fraga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dalmo Saldanha made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After the first half Peru were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marco van Basten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Eliseo Mina sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Julian Murillo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Julian Murillo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dalmo Saldanha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 59 minutes into the match, Jovens Democratas MZC's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Dalmo Saldanha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 93rd minute Chico de Sousa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Peru had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
