When the match clock showed 4 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Leon Matthäus sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. When the match had gone on for 10 minutes, Leon Matthäus took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. In the 13th play minute Leon Matthäus came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Benito Sanz. 3-0. Eliseo Noboa hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Leon Matthäus went, in the 23rd minute, to the upper right corner, 5-0 was the resulting score. After 27 minutes of play, Academia 1903's Leon Matthäus made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Leon Matthäus took a quick shot and it went in 7-0 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. 33 minutes into the game, Leon Matthäus recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Benito Sanz. Leon Matthäus showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 8-0. In the 39th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Ferrant to maneuver through the defense. Leon Matthäus struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Academia 1903. 42 minutes into the game, Academia 1903's Leon Matthäus nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 9-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Leon Matthäus to make the kick off. The audience was convinced that Leon Matthäus's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Leon Matthäus's shot from short distance in the 61st minute. Timoteo Columbo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benito Sanz having to make a save. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 69th minute of the game. One of Costa Rica:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Academia 1903:s goal. In the 73rd minute, Timoteo Columbo made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 12-0. After a rather tough play, Academia 1903's Marco Rincón got a free kick in the 75th minute. Academia 1903's Primo Speranza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Academia 1903 from getting a goal against them. After 79 minutes of play, Academia 1903's Timoteo Columbo made it 13-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Academia 1903's attentive Lucien de Neutere managed to snatch the ball when Hugo Ferrant made a throw-in in the 82nd minute of the game. In the 83rdth minute of the game Timoteo Columbo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Timoteo Columbo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Juan Rubio got a throw-in 87 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Lautaro Puig. When Academia 1903's Timoteo Columbo in the 89th minute got a chance for a shot 89th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Costa Rica's goalie prevented a goal. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Academia 1903 had played much better football throughout.
