But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Monty Rogers couldn't finish the play. When the match clock showed 40 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Victoriano Iratzeder sped through USA's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Marco Day. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Victoriano Iratzeder to make the kick off. Zoran Simović yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-5.
