Erwin Huygens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 41st minute of play. With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when Ago Tramp tried to sneak it across the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Nereo Artaldo made the kick off in the second half. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Augusto Cordario in the 87th minute of play. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Velez Sarsfield were awarded a corner in the 91th minute after Peru's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Filomeno Montrell took the corner. Erwin Huygens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Gallo in the 92nd minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Augusto Cordario came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Peru's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
