After 14 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Puig. Abel Carballo charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Axel Tasis was the one to do the kick off. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edvin Aronsson in the 51st minute of play. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilhelm Bergstedt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mellanström's Wilhelm Bergstedt got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Edvin Aronsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 64 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Kent Sjögren came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 67th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kent Sjögren in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Axel Tasis hit a great ball. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilhelm Bergstedt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 96 minutes into the match, Wilhelm Bergstedt had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wilhelm Bergstedt was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Mellanström had played much better football throughout.
