Crni Tigrovi's Nebojša Jerić played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 4th minute of play. Camilo Gisbert made in the 10th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Luis Andino. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of play forced Crni Tigrovi's goalkeeper Nebojša Jerić to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Agustín Saelices had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Crni Tigrovi's Pompiliu Bacalbașa got a free kick in the 93rd minute. Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
