A very good chance. 19 minutes into the game, Severiano Mann was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Boca Juniors's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mexico the free kick. After 19 played minutes Boca Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Severiano Mann. Evaristo Pena showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 21st minute of the match. The supporters of Mexico booed when Boca Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sebastian Benat didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Joel Gaona's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Evaristo Pena was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. 34 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Evaristo Pena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 35th minute, Joel Gaona made a precise shot to the right of Evaristo Pena. Boca Juniors's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Facundo Cadaval got a free kick in the 42nd minute. 45 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Lautaro Mancebo came free, but Evaristo Pena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Luca Rouco kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Joel Gaona struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Evaristo Pena didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. In the 64th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evaristo Pena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Boca Juniors's Evaristo Pena got control of the ball when Lautaro Mancebo tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 69th minute, Valdemar Oliveira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Boca Juniors's Evaristo Pena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luca Zorita in the 70th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Boca Juniors's zone, Joel Gaona stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Evaristo Pena came out of the goal and Joel Gaona tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Evaristo Pena made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 74th minute. Evaristo Pena showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 77th minute of the match. 78 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Luca Zorita came free, but Evaristo Pena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luca Zorita in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Evaristo Pena saved Boca Juniors from getting behind. Evaristo Pena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 80 minutes into the game, Joel Gaona cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Evaristo Pena was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A sloppy throw-in by Nicasio Su in the 83rd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Mexico's Felix Luque. 88 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goalkeeper Evaristo Pena had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lautaro Mancebo. After a rather tough play, Boca Juniors's Cristobal Feo got a free kick in the 96th minute. Joel Gaona missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 98 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Evaristo Pena right hand side. Mexico's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
