Guy Durant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 30th minute Anatol Hönes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 36 minutes into the game, Camille Gautheron was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lyon 69ers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. Lyon 69ers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tom Beaune was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anatol Hönes to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a free kick in the 54th minute. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Mathias Lecanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 70th minute, Camilo Gisbert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anatol Hönes, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guy Durant having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tom Beaune in the 84th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mathias Lecanu kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The attack was good, but when Daniel Zorita in the 95th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
