An unexpectedly hard shot by Marquinhos Botelho in the 19th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Donatello came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 37 minutes, Marquinhos Botelho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Inter de São Paulo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marquinhos Botelho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 44th minute, Patricio Costa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Venezuela fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Inter de São Paulo getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Eurico Penha hit a great ball. Tomas Illescas missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 54 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Kléber Salles right hand side. Jonathan Venegas hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. The supporters of Inter de São Paulo booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guillermo Mariano didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 61st minute Pedro Donatello shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gerson Coelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Donatello in the 93rd minute of play. In the 95th minute Gerson Coelho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
