Mariano Lacasa ran over to the corner to take the kick. Chile's Guillermo Fontirroig was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Mitchel Dijkstra in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Chile's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Mariano Lacasa in the 9th minute. After taking down the ball on Chile's corner Mariano Lacasa fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Mitchel Dijkstra quite easily take care of the ball. Fc Benefica's Mitchel Dijkstra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 13th minute of play. After having played for 15 minutes, Jens van Basten managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fc Benefica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jens van Basten was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Fc Benefica's Leandro Soares slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Thiago Pliego. That made the score 1-0 after 26 minutes of play. Chile's Orlando Casaus got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pedro Indiano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Mitchel Dijkstra tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, Fc Benefica could leave the field as winners, despite Chile having more of the ball for most of the match.
