In the 45th minute, one of Venezuela:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Venezuela. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Venezuela were furious when Camilo Gaos was red carded, 60 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In a very dangerous position, a player in Venezuela fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 60th minute.
