Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Bulcsú Sipos showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 17 minute of play. Lóránd Szarka took the corner. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a free kick in the 41st minute. Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 45th minute, when Lóránd Szarka sent off a good shot on target. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
