Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Samuel Farias having to interfere. Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Club Deportivo Álvarez's Samuel Farias played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 16th minute of play. Samuel Farias showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 17th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Samuel Farias having to interfere. Cristian Sancho hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to Club Deportivo Álvarez getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Paulo Maiorga hit a great ball. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Daniel Zorita sped through Club Deportivo Álvarez's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Samuel Farias. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Paulo Maiorga made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 51st minute of play forced Club Deportivo Álvarez's goalkeeper Samuel Farias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 52nd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Club Deportivo Álvarez's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Daniel Zorita's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Samuel Farias skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After some careless play in the Club Deportivo Álvarez defense, Felix Montenegro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Samuel Farias. The Club Deportivo Álvarez fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Samuel Farias should have stopped the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Samuel Farias in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Samuel Farias tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Samuel Farias made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 66th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Daniel Zorita kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Samuel Farias. That made the score 0-5 in the 83 minute of play. The nice shot from Daniel Zorita in the 87thth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Samuel Farias had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 88th minute of play forced Club Deportivo Álvarez's goalkeeper Samuel Farias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Samuel Farias stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Agustín Saelices's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
