Club Del Gallo's Ramón Vidal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime Pardo in the 27th minute of play. Ramón Vidal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hector Covarrubias in the 33rd minute of the match. After the first half Paraguay were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jaime Pardo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Club Del Gallo booed when Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Xavier Zoido didn't get a good kick on the ball. 55 minutes into the match, Club Del Gallo's Délio Freitas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacobo Nores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Zé Paulo Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Despite being the better team, Paraguay failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
