Rick Brearley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. In the 39th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rick Brearley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rick Brearley came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3.
When Agustín Saelices came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agustín Saelices couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Austin Mills managed to get in a good position for a shot. Celtic de Sarda's supporters rose to their feet, but Austin Mills was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Celtic de Sarda was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Niklas Pettersson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Rick Brearley firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 85thth minute of the game Jonathan Stamnes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Rick Brearley didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. 89 minutes into the match, Henrik Etoo notched a goal, 1-4, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Rick Brearley was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Daniel Zorita showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-5 in the 94 minute of play. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
