C.A.Independiente appealed in vain for a penalty, the referee looked over at the linesman, but the flag stayed down. No Penalty. After 11 played minutes C.A.Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Øyvind Rovik. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buford Lim having to interfere. Buford Lim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 36th minute of play. C.A.Independiente's Buford Lim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 36th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 39th minute of play forced C.A.Independiente's goalkeeper Buford Lim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after C.A.Independiente's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Buford Lim quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Tom Misaki sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, C.A.Independiente's Tom Misaki got a free kick in the 44th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tom Misaki to make the kick off. Buford Lim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 57th minute. If Tom Misaki had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Nereo Frederico fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored C.A.Independiente's protests and gave Nereo Frederico a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to C.A.Independiente getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Nereo Frederico hit a great ball. In the 64th minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. After 71 played minutes C.A.Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Heigo Luiga. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Tom Misaki managed to get in a good position for a shot. C.A.Independiente's supporters rose to their feet, but Tom Misaki was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind C.A.Independiente's goalkeeper Buford Lim, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buford Lim having to interfere. In the 87th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luis Andino to maneuver through the defense. C.A.Independiente made a substitution. Justino Confesor replaced Heigo Luiga. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Felix Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tom Misaki, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 95th minute Tom Misaki shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing C.A.Independiente to leave the ground with a draw.
