The audience was convinced that Tomas Illescas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Americo Gaitano was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teodosio Bermund, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Americo Gaitano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Baldomiro Gaizko got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Joshua Secada had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 33 minutes into the game, Ladislao Abella was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Stellenbosch's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. A collision led to Stellenbosch getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Ladislao Abella hit a great ball. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. 36 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Americo Gaitano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 52nd match minute, Stellenbosch was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Modesto Fliz to maneuver through the defense. In the 54th minute, Teodosio Bermund got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 59 minutes into the game, Alberto Oinatz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Stellenbosch's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Stellenbosch was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alberto Oinatz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Americo Gaitano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. A throw-in in the 80th minute of the game was made by Alberto Oinatz with Cosme Lucian as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. When the final whistle sounded Venezuela left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Stellenbosch.
