The corner led Ecuador's Felix Montes to fire away a dangerous shot which 洪城诚 despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 洪城诚 showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Fero Rovires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 洪城诚 made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 27th minute of play. 洪城诚 came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 洪城诚 showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. In the 34th minute, Benedicto Ramond hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 36th minute, Primitivo Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Fero Rovires kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Julio Vera. That made the score 1-1 in the 41 minute of play. If Fero Rovires had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 48 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Fero Rovires came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half.
