After 39 played minutes ionion got a freekick which was hit by Niculae Moisescu. After 43 minutes ionion's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 44th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Panait Oprea to make the kick off. Fabio Abalos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 54th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of ionion's goalie and right to Luis Andino. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. ionion's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Panait Oprea in the 56th minute. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Panait Oprea tried to sneak it across the goal line. 65 minutes into the match, ionion's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Fabio Abalos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabio Abalos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. After having played for 70 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Panait Oprea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 75 minutes into the match, Panait Oprea notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 78 minutes of play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fabio Abalos was left in no man's land by his defense there! 85 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Panait Oprea. Fabio Abalos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marijan Ojdanić in the 87th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to ionion getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Panait Oprea hit a great ball. In the 93rd minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fabio Abalos was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1.
