After having played for 4 minutes, Paulo José de Lima managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Racing F. C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo José de Lima was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Efrain Moruga hit a great ball. Paulo José de Lima received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Racing F. C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roger Motta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 22ndth minute of the game Axel Tasis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Racing F. C's Oscar Souto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Racing F. C's zone, Eliseo Noboa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oscar Souto came out of the goal and Eliseo Noboa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jorge Fontes charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jorge Fontes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 28th match minute, Racing F. C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jorge Fontes to maneuver through the defense. In the 34th minute, Willian Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 37th minute of the match Juan Rubio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Oscar Souto showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Costa Rica's defense didn't have a chance, in the 44th minute, when Paulo José de Lima scored to the left of an out of position Benito Sanz, making the score, 1-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulo José de Lima to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Racing F. C getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Moisés Damião hit a great ball. In the 57th minute Paulo José de Lima shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 63 minutes into the match, Racing F. C's goalkeeper Oscar Souto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Axel Tasis. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Percival Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 65 minutes into the game, Aaron Alcocer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Racing F. C the free kick. When Eliseo Noboa came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Noboa couldn't finish the play. In the 73rd minute, Ciro Pereira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jorge Fontes in the 74 minute of the game. After 76 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Puig. Ciro Pereira hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. The throw-in from Jorge Fontes in the 90th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig. When Percival Montenegro fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Racing F. C's protests and gave Percival Montenegro a yellow card for diving instead. After 94 played minutes Racing F. C got a freekick which was hit by Percival Montenegro. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
