Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Daniel Zorita got the match started through his kick off. Mark Schwarzer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mark Schwarzer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 4th minute. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Celso Osmundo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rene Indartsu in the 15th minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 21 minutes into the game, Luis Andino cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Mark Schwarzer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 24th minute, Ismael Guilabertus fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Emilio Gelacio hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mario Rodriguez during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After having played for 77 minutes, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Andino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Celso Osmundo in the 90th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 93rd minute, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Mark Schwarzer. Mark Schwarzer yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-5. In the 96th minute Celso Osmundo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Ecuador walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
