Hortêncio Figueiredo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 19th minute of the match. Joel Gaona took the ball and in the 36 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hortêncio Figueiredo. Hortêncio Figueiredo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. In the 39th minute, Kenneth Will got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 45th minute, Kenneth Will made a precise shot to the right of Dante Lacasa. Mexico's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Joel Gaona made the kick off in the second half.
