The referee ignored Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s protests and gave Éder Guimarães a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s Éder Guimarães got a free kick in the 14th minute. In the 16th minute of the match Éder Guimarães sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joaquin Gayoso skillfully saved the ball. 17 minutes into the game, Gorka Mendieta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Joaquin Gayoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Almiro Brito made in the 20th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Uruguay's Alberto Gisbert. Jovanie Cabral took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. If Gorka Mendieta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the game, Almiro Brito threw the ball into play from the sideline. Uruguay's Alberto Gisbert quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After a defensive mix-up in Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s zone, Maximiliano Escribano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hauk Thuen came out of the goal and Maximiliano Escribano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Francisco Seco came free with the goalkeeper in the 31st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Hauk Thuen could save by the left post. Hauk Thuen was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Maximiliano Escribano showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-3 in the 35 minute of play. Hauk Thuen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Francisco Seco in the 39th minute. Gorka Mendieta took the ball and in the 41 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gorka Mendieta, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gorka Mendieta in the 47th minute of the match. Francisco Seco in the 49thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Hauk Thuen, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Disappointed in the 1-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Francisco Seco made a kick off. Jovanie Cabral hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s Dirk-Jan Pietersma got a free kick in the 55th minute. Jaime Cazalla took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 56th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Hauk Thuen. Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jovanie Cabral in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquin Gayoso saved Uruguay from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Maximiliano Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Uruguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Maximiliano Escribano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hauk Thuen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 64th minute, Camilo Franco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 65 minutes into the match, Cotinguiba Esporte Clube-'s Leonardo Severo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Joaquin Gayoso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Hauk Thuen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximiliano Escribano, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gorka Mendieta in the 72nd minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded.
