Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. 18 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Washington Carneiro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Washington Carneiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Ademir Costa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. When Ecuador's Cristian Sancho in 89 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Washington Carneiro guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Washington Carneiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
