In the 36th minute Rasmus Ahlstedt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stefan Cebula hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rasmus Ahlstedt in the 86th minute of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Ecuador had played much better football throughout.
