If Lautaro Mancebo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Lorenzo Cazalla got a free kick in the 20th minute. 23 minutes into the match, Ruperto Salvadore had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dante Lacasa. The supporters of Mexico booed when Club Atlético Magallanes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Best Jesus didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan Sierocki in the 29th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 43rd minute of play forced Club Atlético Magallanes's goalkeeper Jimeno Nevada to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Club Atlético Magallanes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jimeno Nevada should have stopped the shot. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gavino Rami to strike the kick off in the second half. If Gavino Rami had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. In the 63rd minute, Alberto Tafalla got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dante Lacasa had great luck who in the 70thth minute grab hold of the ball when Taci Argün from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Mexico's Joel Gaona got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 76 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Magallanes's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Jimeno Nevada reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jimeno Nevada made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 77th minute of play. After 79 minutes of play, Club Atlético Magallanes's Taci Argün made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dante Lacasa was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jimeno Nevada took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Tafalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
