After some careless play in the Júbilo Iwata defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Giovanni Pena. The Júbilo Iwata fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Giovanni Pena should have stopped the shot. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Giovanni Pena tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 17 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Giovanni Pena was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Júbilo Iwata's Giovanni Pena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 20th minute of play. In the 27th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Giovanni Pena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 31 minutes Júbilo Iwata's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giovanni Pena having to interfere. 37 minutes into the match, Júbilo Iwata's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Giovanni Pena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Giovanni Pena showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 47th minute of the match.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ivan Xabier stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Júbilo Iwata's Dedé de Castro was substituted for Mazinho Correia. After a rather tough play, Júbilo Iwata's Mazinho Correia got a free kick in the 56th minute. Cristian Sancho was extremely unlucky when he, in the 60th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Giovanni Pena tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giovanni Pena having to interfere. Giovanni Pena was a little too slow when Cristian Sancho got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 72nd minute. The score was now 0-4. With a little luck, Júbilo Iwata's Giovanni Pena got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dedé de Castro's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dedé de Castro helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Júbilo Iwata's Dedé de Castro got a free kick in the 76th minute. 77 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Giovanni Pena. Júbilo Iwata's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jerônimo Mangueira in the 86th minute of play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Júbilo Iwata's Giovanni Pena got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Giovanni Pena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 94 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Giovanni Pena made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-6. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Júbilo Iwata throughout the match.
