CE LAJEADENSE RS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Patricio Costa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Waldir da Mata was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. In the 68th minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. CE LAJEADENSE RS's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tomas Illescas ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Tomas Illescas almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but CE LAJEADENSE RS's Waldir da Mata did a great save. 71 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Waldir da Mata. CE LAJEADENSE RS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Illescas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. The supporters of CE LAJEADENSE RS booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. 78 minutes into the game, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Waldir da Mata, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save.
